Correspondence School

For students who wish to study at home, pastors who wish to extend their education and teachers who wish to further their training in education courses.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The Correspondence Program of Midwestern Baptist College provides college credit for students who wish to extend their education by correspondence. Correspondence work has many advantages. The student works at his home or office at his own pace and the work is not significantly affected by sickness, weather, or cancellations. The correspondence studies are conducted on a quality basis and as much as one full college year of work can be transferred into a degree program. A student may also earn the two year Bible Diploma or the Associates Degree in Bible through the correspondence studies. The work is equivalent to in-class work.
ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE
  • An application form may be obtained at the college office. One will be mailed to you upon request
  • A student may enroll for one or more courses. Enrollment dates follow the calendar year of the college (fall, spring, and summer semesters).
  • An application fee of $20.00 (non-refundable) must accompany the application.
  • A registration one time fee of $100.00 (non-refundable) must accompany the first payment.
  • Lessons are mailed to the student. Completed lessons are returned for grading with self-addressed, stamped envelope enclosed.
  • Upon completion of each course the student will receive a certificate and grade. A maximum of 6 months is allowed for completion of each course.
COSTS
  • Application fee: $20.00 (non-refundable) per person.
  • Registration fee: $100.00 (non-refundable) per person.
  • Tuition is $85.00 per semester hour, payable in 2 payments, first payment due upon acceptance as a student and second payment due within 60 days. No grades or credit will be given until all fees are paid.
  • There is an additional fee of $100.00 for tapes used in New Testament Greek.
  • All payments are to be made by check or money order payable to Midwestern Baptist College.

Course Offerings

BIBLE

BL 101 Pentateuch

1 Semester, 3 hours

Pentateuch is a study of the beginning of all things. Known as the "five books of Moses" or "the Law," it portrays God's leadership of the Hebrew people from their inception through the miraculous deliverance and establishment of Israel in the Promised Land.

 

BL 102 Historical Books

1 Semester, 3 hours

A study is made of I and II Samuel, I and II Kings, I and II Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Joshua, Judges, and Ruth in their historical settings.

 

BL 103 Genesis

1 Semester, 3 hours

In this detailed study of the "book of beginnings," special emphasis is given to the Bible account of creation, the history of nations, and God's early dealings with His people.

 

BL 200 New Testament Survey

1 Semester, 2 hours

An overview is made of the entire New Testament with emphasis upon the historical and geographical setting.

 

BL 201 Life Of Christ

1 Semester, 2 hours

This study of the first three Gospels covers the outstanding events in the life of our Lord. An analysis of His teachings is included.

 

BL 202 The Acts

1 Semester, 2 hours

This is an examination of the book of Acts showing the model New Testament Christian in action. There is a careful study of early Christianity, including its origin, character, activity, and experience.

 

BL 301, 302, 401, 402 Bible Doctrines I, II, III, IV

4 Semester, 2 hours each

These courses provide a detailed and systematic study of the doctrines of the Word of God. Emphasis is placed on the historic fundamental position with a consideration of the theological implications and relationships involved.

 

BL 403 Old Testament Poetry

1 Semester, 2 hours

This course is designed to give the student a basic understanding of the elements of Hebrew poetry. The book of Job is developed, representative Psalms are studied, and the books of Proverbs, Song of Solomon and Ecclesiastes are surveyed. Prerequisite: BL 102

 

BL 411 Romans

1 Semester, 2 hours

A brief study is made of the historical background of the church in Rome as well as a detailed study of the contents of the book. The major doctrines are emphasized.

 

BL 412 Revelation

1 Semester, 2 hours

This study emphasizes the historical setting and future fulfillment of the book of Revelation.

CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES

CM 203 Sunday School Administration

1 Semester, 2 hours

An analysis is made of the basic principles of educational administration and their implications for the organization of the total program of the Sunday School.

 

CM 302 Church Administration

1 Semester, 2 hours

A general study is made of the methods, financing, establishment, and maintenance of New Testament Churches. This course acquaints the student with every area of administration within the local church.

 

PT 201, 201 (Mi 201, 202) Introduction To Missions

2 Semesters, 3 hours each

This course is designed to introduce students to missions, history of missions, Biblical philosophy, missionary relationships, mission boards, faith promise, and global awareness.

 

PT 302 Homiletics

1 Semester, 2 hours

Homiletics is the study of sermon building and proper outlining. The emphasis is on preaching that is effective for soul winning and for edifying believers.

 

PT 404 (CM 404) Baptist History And Polity

1 Semester, 2 hours

The development of Baptist churches is studied and related to their beginnings and backgrounds with a correlation to New Testament teaching on the administration and government of the church.

 

PT 415 Pastoral Counseling

1 Semester, 2 hours

Basic orientation in counseling for pastors and Christian leaders is provided. the relationship is shown between fundamental theory and practical facts.

EDUCATION

Ed 100 Introduction To Education

1 Semester, 3 hours

This course acquaints the student with the history of education. It is designed to establish a foundation for other educational courses.

 

Ed 201 Educational Psychology

1 Semester, 3 hours

Psychological theory and research findings are applied to the field of education. Major topics include principles of human development applicable to the work of the teacher.

 

Ed 203 Methods In Education

1 Semester, 3 hours

Principles of teaching are studied, as well as methods adaptable to the student learning process.

 

Ed 415 Administration Of Christian Schools

1 Semester, 3 hours

The philosophy, instructional program, facilities, and finance of the Christian school are analyzed in the light of Scriptural teaching. Legal implications are explored.

En 101, 102 English Grammar And Composition

2 Semesters, 3 hours

The techniques of expository writing are explored. Oral and written essays, creative writing, and a formal research paper are included.

 

MA 101 Basic Mathematics

1 Semester, 2 hours

Basic Mathematics is a general course which builds mathematics skills and understanding, including whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and other basic mathematical operations.

 

Mu 101 Basic Music Theory

1 Semester, 2 hours

This introductory course in music theory covers the fundamentals of music notations, scales, intervals, triads, and general terms.

 

Mu 320 Hymnology

1 Semester, 2 hours

This study of "psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs" emphasizes music performed by professional singers and musicians from the time of temple worship until the present.

 

CS 201 Principles Of Accounting

1 Semester, 2 hours

The student is instructed in the "language of business" through which an understanding is gained of general accounting concepts and terminology.

The principles, concepts, methods, and terminology in the field of sociology are introduced. The relation of culture to group activities, and some of the major social institutions are analyzed.

 

AL 201, 202 Elementary Greek

2 Semesters, 3 hours each

An intensive study of elementary grammar, syntax, and vocabulary includes selected readings from the New Testament.

 

Hi 201, 202 United States History

2 Semesters, 2 hours each

Political, social, religious, and economic history from colonial times to the present is surveyed. The first semester covers the period prior to and including the War Between the States. The second semester includes the time of reconstruction to the present.

 

Hi 301, 302 Church History

2 Semesters, 2 hours each

The history of the Christian church is studied from the apostolic age to the present time. The first semester covers the apostolic age through the medieval period. The second semester considers the period from the Reformation to the twentieth century.

 

Psy 202 General Psychology

1 Semester, 3 hours

Students become acquainted with the psychology, development, and functions of the human mind. The student is made aware of the Christian view of this field.

 

Sc 301 Biological Science Survey

1 Semester, 3 hours

This course in the fundamentals of biology includes botany, zoology, human physiology, and Bible-related topics.
